Sat April 8: Bundle Dying + Tuber Workshop

85.00

Our first workshop of the season! The flowers will be blooming. Explore color and pattern through various plants and flowers in the Gardens.

In this class you'll learn about the unique plants and flowers on and around the Gardens that can be used as natural dyes and the process by which you can extract color. An Ly will describe principles of mordants and color alteration techniques. Participants will focus on bundle dyeing, a method of ecoprinting using plant and flower materials to imprint color into fabric. All materials will be provided: fabric swatches, flowers, and plants. Each student will take home their creation.

Spring is the time to plant fall-blooming tubers. Arrin will teach students to plant, care for, harvest, and propogate tuberose and dhalias. Polianthes tuberosa is one of our favorite flowers. This species of plant is grown for its fragrant, creamy white flowers. Students will take tubers home for their own gardens.

The course ends at 6pm. You're encouraged to stay into the evening to get the full experience the farm. We have 11 acres of unique plants and flowers to get to know. We'll have a fire to commune into the evening. Bring tents to camp out or book our airbnb. We offer donation based yoga in our pavilion on Sunday mornings.
