Sat Sept 2: Natural Dyes and Floral Arranging Workshop

time: 1-5pm

Explore color and pattern through various plants and flowers in the Gardens. 

In this class you'll learn about the unique plants and flowers on and around the Gardens that can be used as natural dyes and the process by which you can extract color. An Ly will describe principles of mordants and color alteration techniques. Participants will focus on bundle dyeing, a method of ecoprinting using plant and flower materials to imprint color into fabric. All materials will be provided: fabric swatches, flowers, and plants. Each student will take home their creation. 

Arrin will walk students through the basics of arranging flowers. Emphasis will be placed on mimicking the natural rhythms in nature. 

Students will learn the fundamentals of floral preparation, concepts of color and texture, and tips on how to forage their own materials.

All materials including clippers, vessel, and flowers provided. Each student will take home their centerpiece. Seasonal flowers will be sourced from the farm.
